Obituary of William "Bob" Robert Sommers

William “Bob” R. Sommers, 93, of Speedway passed away on November 14, 2016. Bob was born in Indianapolis on March 3, 1923 to William R. and Leona (Murphy) Sommers. Bob served bravely in the US Army during World War II. Bob retired in 1982 as superintendent of production for Detroit Diesel Allison, where he was employed for over 35 years. He was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #3682, American Legion Post 500 and Moose Lodge 500. Bob was an avid golfer. Bob is preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years to whom he married on September 7, 1946, Johanna (Schlotz) Sommers. Bob is also preceded in death by his grandson, Nicholas Robert Sommers and great-granddaughter Savannah Leann Bettis. He is survived by four children; William (Karen) Sommers, Annette Groce, Nancy (Rick) Hiser, Mary (Michael) McKinzie; brothers, Raymond (Myrna) Sommers and James Sommers; sisters, Mary (Jim) Gephart, Helen Kieffer, Delores (Jim) Glaze, Gertie (David) Mathis; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild.
