Obituary of Allen Lee Akers
Allen Lee Akers, 87, of Indianapolis passed away on March 3, 2016. Allen was born on October 26, 1928 in Hammond, IN. He served proudly in the United States Air Force. Allen was a graduate of Peru High School and received his Bachelor degree from Indiana University and there is where he met his future wife of 62 years, Florence Akers. It was later after finishing college, when he worked for a medical center and reconnected with Florence and then later married. Allen worked for full time for Capital Consolidated and in the evening and weekends he spent his time with his family on home improvement projects. Allen was active in Indian Guides, Indian Princesses and Scouts. He also worked in real estate and for the last ten years of his career he worked for 21st Century. After his retirement, both Allen and Florence became active in the Chapel Hill Lions Club where he is a life member. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Florence Akers; daughters Donnalee (Robert) Brooking and Jean (Mike Hager) Melloy; son, Larry (Donna) Akers; sisters Mary Durland and Sally Garrison; granddaughters, Jennifer Boger and Stacey Palmer; great-grandchildren, Jennifer Boger, Stacy Palmer, Austin Heckathorn, Ashley Farmer, Cameron Heckathorn, Shayla Shelton, Trenity Brooking, Abigail Brooking and Michael Brooking.
