Jana K. (Schrink) Strain, 51, of Indianapolis, passed away February 17, 2016. She was born on February 4, 1965 to Jeffrey L. and Frances M. Schrink. She graduated Terre Haute North Vigo High School, 1983 Valedictorian; Indiana State University, B.A. in Psychology awarded August 1986, cum laude, and where she was a member of Alpha Phi Sorority; Butler University, M.S. awarded December 1990 in Marriage and Family Therapy; Indiana University School of Law, J.D. awarded December 1997, cum laude. Jana’s professional experience includes Judicial Clerk to the Honorable Brent E. Dickson, Justice to the Indiana Supreme Court from July 1998 to July 2000. Some of Jana’s professional and community positions held are the Indiana State Bar Association: Chair, GP-Solo Section 2013-14; Chair, Women in the Law (2010-11). Committees: Ethics; Judicial Improvements; Diversity; Solo and Small Firm Conference Committee. Representative to House of Delegates (Marion County.) The Indianapolis Bar Association: ADR Section, Executive Council (2011- present); Graduate, Bar Leader Series, Class III; Bar Leader Steering Committee, Class IV,V (2006-2008); Chair, Ask A Lawyer Project 2001. She was very involved with the 500 West Indianapolis Optimist Club (2008-present), Foundation Chair 2009, and President 2011-12. Jana was the owner of her own practice which focused on family law, appeals, civil and domestic mediation. She was a genuine listener, you could talk to her for only a few minutes and you had made a good friend, as evidenced by her great many good friends. She loved to read, anything and everything she could get her hands on and was often known to finish entire novels in mere nights. Her sons have gained their love of reading from their mother. She was very artistic, sketching and painting were her media. She loved Mexican food, and an occasional margarita. She over prepared for holidays, often cooking for days before our family get togethers. She was an organizer, with an amazing eye for detail; which made her an extraordinary attorney. She was a volunteer at school, at church, and in the community; often the first to arrive and the last to leave at events. She was an irreplaceable wife/mom/friend/confidant/colleague who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her parents, her loving husband of 29 years, Gregory D. Strain; sons, Griffin D. and Jacob K. Strain; brother, J. Kyle (Theresa) Schrink; nieces, Alicia M. and Riley M. Schrink, and aunt, Sherri Spall. Visitation will be held Monday, Feb. 22 from 4-8pm with a rosary at 7:30pm at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 West 10th St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 11am with visitation from 10 until the time of service at St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 West 16th St. Speedway.
