Obituary of John Louis Grande

John Louis Grande, 89, of Indianapolis passed away June 7, 2015. He was born May 9, 1926 in Indianapolis, IN to John L. and Margaret (McNamara) Grande. John attended St. Anthony’s Grade School, Cathedral High School and St. Joseph’s College. He was a WWII Navy Veteran stationed in the South Pacific as a radio communications seaman from June 2, 1944 – June 14, 1946. He owned Grande Greenhouse off Grande Avenue and was a Realtor for F.C. Tucker for over 20 years. John was a very active member of St. Vincent De Paul and St. Christopher Parish; board member of Society of American Florists, board of Catholic Youth Organization and was the past president of the Indiana State Florist Association. He was the proud recipient of the Bosco Award. He was preceded in death by his parents and loving wife of 59 years, Virginia Connor Grande. John is survived by his sons, Greg and John J. (Linda) Grande; grandchildren, Shawn Grande, Becky Grande, Jennifer Grande, Stacy Grande, Tony Grande, Nathan Grande, Megan Grande (Shane) Libey and Peter Grande; brothers, James and Robert Grande and 5 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10 from 4 pm – 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, June 11 at 1 pm in St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16th St., Speedway. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: St. Augustine’s Home for the Aged – Little Sister’s of the Poor, 2345 West 86th St., Indianapolis, IN 46260-1981.
