Condolences
My sympathy to the Grande Family. I am sure you are all so proud of John and all his accomplishments. As a middle schooler growing up in the Chapel Hill neighborhood on Bauman Ave. in the 70's, I used go to the Grandes Basketball court at the end of the dead end street and play forever. Sometimes Johnny came out to play also which made me a big fan of Cathedral, especially their great teams of the 70's. Great memories. Thanks,
Michael Prow
I am so sorry for the Grande Family and your loss; I lost my Mom last year. I have found death to leave me with a feeling of helplessness. May I leave you this word of encouragement that has helped me? The Bible says at 1 Corinthians 15: 26 that God hates death, and shows it to be an enemy. He has "a yearning" to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection. He longs to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them live on earth again. -Job 14:14, 15. My sincere condolences.
I met John at St Augustine's and knew him to be my friend, even as I only was his transportation means. John was such a kind and gentle man who was so interesting to be with, to listen to his stories about his life and the many people whose lives intersected John's. John always had good wisdom to share with me and was so humble in talking about the good old days. I relished the days when I could take John to his appointment or to Sam's, just to be there with him and share his day. John could be very witty or even cunning. I remember the occasions I would have to ask the liquor store clerk for an extra brown paper bag so John and I could disguise the beer purchase on his return to the Little Sisters home, so as to not be noticed. We had fun together. I also remember that every time I went to Mass at St. Augustine I would see John right there in his usual spot, and know the prayers John said were fervent and constant. What a faithful faith filled example in my life was John Grande. J.S.
Uncle John has always been so sweet and dear to me. He always had the sweetest smile when I would see him. The last time the three boys went out to lunch together at Le Peep's they seemed to truly enjoy their time together and ended up talking until the restaurant was ready to close. I could hardly believe so much time had passed and they were all so talkative. Uncle John always enjoyed when I would bring him cheesecake, Grandma Grande's persimmon pudding or mexican wedding cakes. He would say it reminded him of times with Grandma Grande. He always had stories about our family history that will truly be missed. I have always missed Aunt Virginia and now will miss Uncle John. I have such fond memories of both of them. I am truly sorry for your loss and always know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Beth
On behalf of all of the past and present members of the Woodshires, we would like to
express our condolences to John, Greg and the rest of the family on the passing of one
of us, John Grande. We remember him for his wit and sunny disposition and also for putting up with some of the zany stuff from this group. We were blessed to know him and we will miss him, but now he is forever with Virginia.

I got to know John over the years that I brought Holy Communion to Virginia while she was at Lakeview. John was a good, faithful man. He was a great example and loved going to Mass. Prayers for all the family. May John rest in peace.
Our love & prayers to you, Greg, Johnny and your families. Our hearts are warmed by wonderful memories.
I was saddened to read of John Grande's passing in the paper this morning. I remember him from the early 50's when my father (Hamelle Switzer) and I would drive the truck to Indianapolis from Monticello to buy flowers at Grande's for our greenhouse. Mr. Grande always seemed glad to see us, and he was a real favorite of my dad's. In fact, he was the only person I ever knew who called my dad Ham. All of the flats at our greenhouse said Grande on them.
I am so sorry for your loss.
We have many fond memories of the Grande family. John was a favorite friend of our father and we loved to see him,Virginia and family on many vacation visits .We hope that fonder memories will help you all at this difficult time. Regards, The McCaslin family.
Thankyou so very much for letting me get to know and care for your fafhter. I am truly honored to have known him. May God bless you.
We're so sorry to hear of Uncle John's passing, and our thoughts are with you. Every time I smell a pipe, I think of him in your living room!
