Obituary of Irena Reid
Irena Reid, 90, of Indianapolis passed away June 6, 2015. She was born August 16, 1924 in Indianapolis, IN to Anton and Mary P. Canalas.
Irena served as an Army nurse from 1948 – 1952, with service in the Korean War. She worked as an operating room nurse in eye surgery at Indiana University for many years. She enjoyed knitting caps for charity and traveling, with trips to Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand.
Irena was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bruno (Lillian) Canalas.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Robert) Robison; granddaughter, Whitney (Scott) Teplitzky; grandson, Reilly (Carrie) Robison; brother, Robert (Constance) Canalas; sisters, Clara (Bernard - deceased) Trauner and Esther (Anthony) Ferraro; 3 great grandchildren and 19 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11 from 4 pm to 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 12 at 1 pm in St. Christopher Catholic Church, 5301 W. 16th St., Speedway. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
