Obituary of M. Imogene Schrader

M. Imogene (Jean) Schrader, 85, of Indianapolis passed away October 18, 2013. She was born January 13, 1928 in Lafayette, IN to Charles J. and Maymie Funk Parker. Imogene graduated from Jefferson High School. Out of high school, at age 18, she worked at the Pentagon, for a short period of time during WW II with the Surgeon General in the War Department. She was a stay at home mom for her 5 children. In the late 70's, she returned to the work force at Creative Village as office manager. She then worked as chief administrative assistant for Burger Chef Headquarters, until retirement in 1989. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, was involved in St. Vincent de Paul, Bible Study Group, St. Gabriel and St. Christopher in the library, cafeteria and festivals, St. Michael in the sacristy ministry and was involved in their perpetual adoration. At Ritter High School she was a volunteer office assistant and was involved in the founding of the Parish Life Center for St. Michael. She also sponsored a child from Guatemala and contributed to numerous charities. She is survived by her loving husband, Leonard P. Schrader, to whom she was married to for 64 years; siblings, Sharon Simon, William Parker and David "Bud" Parker; children, Linda Griffis, Sandra Barner, Michael Schrader, Anna Snyder and Paul Schrader; grandchildren, Christopher Griffis, Laura Griffis, Melissa Ezell, Brian Barner, Lisa Barner, Lauren Schrader, Luke Schrader, Brandon Snyder, Corina Snyder, Mitchell Schrader and Lindsey Schrader; great grandchildren, Cody Griffis, Riley Griffis, Brianna Ezell and Bryce Ezell. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 23 from 4 pm - 7:30 pm with a rosary at 7:30 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46224. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 10:30 am in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3352 W. 30th St., Indianapolis, IN 46222. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
