Obituary of Brooke Lahr
Brooke Nichole Lahr, 25, of Indianapolis passed away from injuries sustained from being struck by an automobile on Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Acapulco, Mexico. Brooke was born February 25, 1988 in Indianapolis to Mark and Colleen Lahr.
She attended St. Gabriel Elementary School, Fulton Junior High School and Ben Davis High School before graduating with a BA in biology from Bellarmine University in May 2010. While maintaining high academic standards in high school, some of Brooke's honors included National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society while also participating in varsity volleyball, swimming, softball, and show choir. She played volleyball at Bellarmine for two years. Brooke found her calling her junior year at Bellarmine with a mission trip to Guatemala with Hearts in Motion. From that time, Brooke lived the rest of her life deeply connecting with and compassionately helping the less fortunate. Brooke worked with Passionist Volunteers International (PVI) in Honduras in 2010-11. After returning home from Honduras, she continued her selfless exploits by caring for an aunt who was battling Hodgkin's Disease for eight months. She worked with Connect-2-Help in the summer of 2012. In September 2012 she began with Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) "Our Small Brothers and Sisters" in Mexico until her sudden death.
Brooke is survived by her parents, Mark and Colleen Lahr of Indianapolis; brothers, Paul and Anthony Lahr of Indianapolis; grandparents, David and Sandy Lahr of Lafayette; aunts, Cecilia Tucker (Tom) of Martinsville, Marti McFadden (Tim) of Skowhegan, MA, Maureen Hayes (Jeff) of Indianapolis, Celeste Sexton (Ben Krug) of Indianapolis, Camille Sexton-Viallalta of Carmel, Eileen Sexton (Commander Joe McConnell of the USCG) of Arlington, VA and Heather Ryan (Mike) of Parker, CO; uncles, Shaun Sexton (Joyce) of Chugiak, AK, Jim Records (the late Patti Records) of Whiteland, Mike Sexton (Sheila) of Greenfield, Pat Sexton of Indianapolis and Scott Lahr (Karen) of Frankfort, IL; fifteen cousins and second cousins.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 5 from 2 pm - 8 pm in Ben Davis High School, 1200 N. Girls School Road, Indpls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, May 6 at 4 pm with visitation from 2 pm until Mass in St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 6000 W. 34th St., Indpls.
