Obituary of William Swift
William Thomas Swift, 88 of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday June 30, 2012. William was born to Chester and Jessie Swift, and grew up in University Heights, Indianapolis. After graduating from Southport High School he enrolled in the Army Air Force in WWII. He was stationed as a cryptographer in Myitkyina, Burma. Upon graduation from Butler University he was employed for 38 years as an accountant at Allison's.
He and Kathy were founding members of Chapel Hill Methodist Church, where he served as volunteer treasurer for many years. He also volunteered with tax assistance at the Indianapolis Public Library.
Bill was a member of the Old Fogies Golf Club, Allison Retirees and organizer of Southport HS Class of 1942 reunions. His hobbies included golf, genealogy and Civil War history.
A self-starter, Bill taught himself music, painting and computer programming in the mid 1960's. He had an unsurpassed work ethic and was loyal and dedicated both in his work and private life. Yet he was also known for his humor and love of life, friends and family.
His memory is cherished by his wife of 60 years, Kathleen Snyder Swift and his children Teresa (Thomas Bennett) San Francisco, Martin Chicago, IL and Brian (Kristi) Indianapolis. He was predeceased by his youngest son Robert and his brothers Paul and Norman.
In lieu of flowers an expression of sympathy can be made in the memory of William T. Swift to a charity of one's choice.
