Obituary of LauWana Payne
LauWana McDamon Payne, 91 of Indianapolis Indiana has moved on to eternity on September 10, 2020. LauWana was born on January 11, 1929 in Indianapolis, IN to late David McDamon and Eula Guyton. LauWana, a loyal daughter, loving sister has been spiritually lead from a very early age. She was always ready to help and never short of words of encouragement.
LauWana graduated from High School, became a winning Beauty Queen and went on to earn her Associates Degree in Interior Design. At a very young age she became an elevator operator at the Columbia Club downtown Indianapolis. She went on from there to work at IBM and transitioned to Head Bailiff at Criminal Court II for many years under Honorable Judge Webster Brewer. She finished her career at L.S. Ayers designer hand bags department before retiring in 2004. Many people came specifically for her expertise in accessorizing designer bags. LauWana was friends to many and endowed her calming spirit to those who knew her.
LauWana married her sweetheart, Brownell (Doe) Payne on December 22nd, 1951 where they had three children until his death January 21st, 1988. Throughout the years LauWana enjoyed dressing up and going to formal Big Band ballroom dancing with her husband. She was an avid member of the Washington Township PTA. She also served as Head Precinct Committee person and was an active member and usher for 50 plus years under the leadership of Bishop T. Garrott Benjamin Jr of Second Christian Church, now know as Light of the World Christian Church. LauWana was a beacon of "life coaching" to many and a super mom to her children and many others. She enjoyed going to and serving in church, reading, watching Jeopardy, traveling, cooking, community service, musicals, plays, movies and spending time with her family (her pride and joy) and deeply loved her grandchildren.
LauWana is preceeded by her Husband, Brownell Payne Sr, Denise Yvette; Daughter, Brownell Norman Jr; Son, Milton R. McDamon; Brother. She is survived by Keith Irvin (Kimberly); Son, and Grandchildren; Chase Infiniti, Dolc Imani, Jacob Elijah, Kalani Joy, Grant Brownell.
