James Raymond Armstrong
James “Jim” Raymond Armstrong, 81, passed away peacefully at Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis, IN on Monday, March 13, 2023. Jim was born in Beech Grove, Indiana on September 5, 1941. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Mary Armstrong. He is survived by his brothers, Daniel (Mary) Armstrong, David (Pat) Armstrong, Robert (Marysia) Armstrong, and sister Nancy Rankin (Ben Miller). Survivors include nephews, Scott Armstrong, Brad Freeman (Tracey), Rick (Chris) Shores: nieces, Julie Mathison (Johnny), Julie Freeman and Angela Armstrong (Tommy): great nieces and nephew, Madeline, Katherine and Lauren Freeman, Alexa (Josh) Polk, Payton, Elly, and Karsyn Shores, and Noah Freeman Burch: great-great niece, Emma Polk. Jim also leaves behind his long-time best friend, Ray Brown. Jim graduated from Bishop Brute Latin School, St Meinrad Seminary, Marion College and Butler University. He was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Michael’s parish. Jim thoroughly enjoyed teaching 4 th grade at St. Monica’s school for nearly 20 years. He was also a loyal Chicago Cubs, Indiana Pacers and Indianapolis Colts fan. Fluent in French, Jim spent countless hours filling notebooks with French translations to maintain his skills. Our family would like to thank the staff of Northwest Health Care Center who cared for Jim over the past year.
Visitation is Saturday, March 25 from 9:00am-10:00am at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10 th St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3354 W. 30 th St., Indianapolis, IN at 10:30am.
