Obituary of Rose Voithofer Connors

It is with overwhelming love and grief that the family of Rose Voithofer Connors announce her passing on September 4, 2021, at the age of 92 years. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by her closest loved ones. In 1929, Rose was born a Voithofer in Uttendorf, Austria. Rose and her six siblings grew up at Grünbichl (Green Hill) in Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer, Austria. Green Hill was forever home to Rose, a place that she always returned to and a place that her family will forever cherish. When Rose was a young woman, she graduated from Ursulinenkloster finishing school in Salzburg, Austria. This may be surprising to those who knew Rose well, as she was quite mischievous and never really was one for following rules. Rose met her love William “Bill” Connors in Salzburg, and the two were married in Zell am See, Austria in 1952. The pair had two children – William “Billy” Franz and Kathleen Rose. The family lived in Saalfelden, Vicenza, Italy, and Germany before settling in Indianapolis. Rose’s family was her greatest joy. Rose was an artist, a commercial print model, and a homemaker. She was charming, adventurous, and resilient, as well as beautiful, funny, and brave. Rose loved the outdoors – gardening, skiing, bird watching, and playing tennis – but she loved nothing more than spending time laughing, singing, and dancing with her loved ones. Rose also enjoyed playing the slots at the casino. Rose was always strong in her faith and a member of St. Christopher Catholic Parish for many decades. She was also a proud member of the Gold Star Wives of America, as Bill served over thirty years in the U.S. Army. A funeral service in memory of Rose will be held on Friday, September 10th at Steven’s Mortuary in Indianapolis. The viewing will begin at 10:00 AM, with a mass being held at 11:00 AM. Rose will then be laid to rest at West Ridge Park Cemetery. Rose is survived by her daughter Kathleen (Kurt) Schied, her granddaughters Jess Schied, Jourdan Schied, and Sunshine (David) Ellis, her daughter-in-law Miriam Connors, her sister Heidi Blythman, her sisters-in-law Christl Voithofer and Annie Dietrich, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Rose is pre-deceased by her husband Bill, her son Billy, her parents Franz and Katharina Voithofer, as well as her siblings Walter Dietrich, Franz (Rosal) Voithofer, Elisabeth (Joseph) Salzman, Gertraud Gappmaier, and Helmut Voithofer. In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may donate in memory of Rose Connors to the Wounded Warrior Project.
