Obituary of John T. Oliver
John Thomas “Jack” Oliver of Indianapolis passed away on Monday, July 13, 2020. Jack was born on October 17, 1940 in Indianapolis to John C. and Dorothy (Donlan) Oliver. He is survived by his siblings, Thomas (Cathy), Robert (Barb), Barbara Marquis (John), Patty Enders (Pete-deceased), Susan Oslos (Gary), and Joe (Christine), and many nieces and nephews, loving cousins, and beloved friends. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1958, and received a BSME from General Motors Institute (now Kettering University) in 1963. He retired as a test instrumentation engineer at Allison Gas Turbine (now Rolls Royce) in 1992. Jack enjoyed helping people, and enjoyed many years as a volunteer at St. Thomas Food Pantry, He loved sports, and looked forward every year to following spring training of his favorite teams in Florida. Jack was always ready to go to an Indians or Colts game. Jack was an avid tennis, Bocce, and Bridge player throughout his life. Jack also loved to travel, and enjoyed visiting China, Australia, Ireland, and multiple trips to California and Florida to visit family. In addition to family, Jack enjoyed spending time with his extensive network of friends, some of which he share numerous long motorcycle trips across the US. Jack was a loving brother, uncle, and good friend to many and will be sorely missed. Jack was a member of both St. Michael the Archangel and St. Thomas Aquinas parishes.
Visitation will be Monday, July 20 from 4:30-7:30 at Stevens Mortuary; A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on July 21 at 10:30 at St. Michael’s Church. Jack will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers in Assisted Living and the Healthcare Center at Marquette Manor for taking good care of Jack.
