Obituary of Rita E. Basch
Rita E. Basch passed away peacefully in her home Sunday, July 5, 2020 surrounded by her family. She was born November 1, 1928 to George and Catherine Mathias (Schnell) in Dubois County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Basch; a son, Douglas Basch; and her siblings, Ralph Mathias, Austin Mathias, Rosetta Rees, Henrietta Persohn, Betty Striegal, and Marcella Fritz. Survivors include daughter, Denise Mattox (Douglas), son Michael Basch, daughter Cynthia Joseph, granddaughter, Stephanie Holmes (Larry) and 2 great-grandchildren, Aidan and Allyson who she spoiled immensely. She worked for Father Glenn O’Connor in the office at St. Joseph Church and was involved in many of the church activities. She also supported Seeds of Hope, Inc., founded by Father Glenn. She enjoyed listening to soft music, collected tea pots and was never without some sort of chocolate treat in her house. Special thanks is given to Home Instead and Franciscan Hospice, who were instrumental in her care for the last few weeks of her life. Visitation will be Friday, July 10 from 4:00-7:30 PM with a rosary service at 7:30 PM at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 West 10th Street, Indianapolis and viewing Saturday, July 11 at St. Joseph Church at 9 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 10 AM. Donations can be made to Seeds of Hope Inc., 1425 South Mickley Avenue, Indianapolis or St. Joseph Church, 1401 South Mickley Avenue, Indianapolis.
