Obituary of Margaret Ann Wey
Margaret Ann Piland Wey passed away on May 12, 2020. She was born on March 17, 1930, in Dallas, Texas, only daughter of her father, Vollie Sr. (a Southern Baptist pastor), and her mother, Margaret. She had two older brothers, Travis and Vollie Jr. (Bob). She graduated from Yale, Oklahoma High School in 1947, and finished nurses training as an RN in 1950.
She married Paul Prosius Wey, Jr. in April of 1953. They had one son, David, and one adopted daughter, Loretta D’Ann. They made their first home in Duncan, OK, and then moved to Vinita OK (north of Tulsa) to open a KOA Campground business in 1968.
After their son graduated from high school in 1975, they moved to Rogers, Arkansas. They relocated to Indianapolis in 1982, where Margaret continued to work as a nurse. Along with her son and his family, she converted to Orthodox Christianity in 1994, and remained a faithful parishioner and attendee until shortly before her death.
Margaret was deeply committed to the care of others. In particular, she cared for her brother Travis Piland (died August 4, 1952); and she kept in her own home her father (1963), her mother (1988) and her husband Paul (1993) until their passing. She suffered the loss of her daughter Dee to cancer in 2006. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, known to all by her sweet disposition which never waned, despite the hardships and disappointments of life.
She died on May 12, 2020, in Indianapolis, Indiana, at the age of 90, from complications of the Coronavirus. She is survived by her son, Rev. Fr. David Wey, his wife Janene, their children Abigail, Jonathan (Elesha) and Jesse (Laura), granddaughters Amy and Ch’tara, grandsons Stephen and Joshua, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations in her name may be given to her parish, Ss. Constantine and Elena Orthodox Church, 3237 W. 16th Street, Indianapolis IN, 46222.
