Condolences
We deeply miss Darl at State Auto. Although I didn't know Darl personally or even his work position, I would see him getting coffee in the Cafeteria & strike up a conversation or walking down the hallway from the Cafeteria & talking about the weather with myself & a co-worker. When I would carpool with a co-worker, we would see Darl admiring his Volkswagen every morning. He would get out of the car, walk around it with admiration & it was a sight to capture! I did mention to him that yes, he was being watched! LOL...so yes, we will miss him dearly. To do one or more of the things he loved the best...will be easy...in his memory. To the family, thanks for letting us experience Darl from our point of view...
Although Darl and I worked in different departments at State Auto, we would run into each other regularly in the cafeteria and he always had a smile on his face. We shared the love of Notre Dame and growing up in the country. He was a terrific man and will be missed here at State Auto. I am sorry for your loss.
So sorry to hear about the passing of Darl.
He was a great basketball player and excelled in anything he put his mind to. He will be greatly missed.
Sorry to hear the passing of Darl. We were great friends all 12 years of grade and high school! The best of times came on the basketball floor our senior year!!! Great memories! Darl was a super friend! Our prayers are with you!
So sorry to hear about Darl. I worked with him at American States/Safeco. Even after we went different ways, him State Auto, we still continued to meet for lunch on occasions. He was a special man, he will be missed. Condolences and prayers to Marilyn and family.
Darl was a classmate of mine. He was a really nice guy and a good basketball player. I am so sorry for your loss.
Darl was a classmate of mine. Darl always has a smile for everyone. You have my sympathy and prayer for comfort.
Darl, was a classmate and such a nice, easy going guy. I just remember him playing basketball, being the tallest and ALWAYS a pleasure to be around , blessings and comfort to his family. I definitely will have a cat on my lap :) for him. I also remember him playing the trombone as we were in band together.
Darl was a classmate of mine and my late husband Mike. So enjoyed being in stage band together, Mike and Darl would challenge each other for first chair with their trombones, I can still see them playing,
Darl was a classmate. I was in Swing Choir with him. He was such a great guy. So sorry for your loss.
Marilyn and girls,
I was sad to learn of Darl’s passing. He was a wonderful man and always had a kind hello. My prayers are with you all. I am going to have a soft serve and wave at a train for him.

So sorry to hear about Darl. I only knew him for a short time, but I was impressed by his friendliness and passion about Lionel trains. I also had the good fortune of meeting Marilyn and Emily. I’d like to think that he is now on a train to somewhere unknown!
When I joined State Auto in 2006, DARL and I were on the same little team. He has forgotten more about farm insurance than most of us will ever know. DARL was always willing to share his knowledge with others. Even after reporting relationships changed, DARL was always a mentor of mine. His jokes will be missed around the office along with that laugh. Our department will still call each other “dude”, we’ll still use the word “whack”, along with several other Darl-isms that he left us. And he’d always sign his name DARL in all caps on emails. He will be missed as a professional and a friend. Condolences to Marilyn and family, thank you for sharing him with us.
I am so sorry to hear about Darl. He was much loved by Wendell and Madonna. And was very kind any time I saw him.RFnL2

Beautifully written. I worked with Darl at American States/Safeco. He was my mentor and friend. He always enjoyed Barbecue Dinners when we would travel to Tennessee for agency visits.
My Prayers and Sympathy for Marilyn, Katy, and Emily, and Family.
We’ll always remember Darl’s Great smile. He was one super friend. Love you all.
Our sincerest sympathy on the loss of this special man. We join you in celebrating Darl’s life and legacy. Hugs and prayers,

Beautifully written, Ladies! My father, too, was a fancier of trains. Surely, he will find Darl so they may continue their model train hobby in Heaven! Peace to each of you, Marilyn, Emily and Katy.
What a beautifully written remembrance for such a great guy! Darl and I share the same birth date, I am just a year older. Praying for God's grace to cover you and the girls.
Marilyn,
What a lovely obituary. I will think of Darl every time I roll out a pie crust! I enjoyed making his favorite pies for him. (peach or rhubarb). He loved his family and spoke so kindly of you and his daughters. I always enjoyed his "turkey" pizza story for Thanksgiving. I enjoyed working with Darl through the years for his knowledge, sense of humor and friendship. I am so sorry for your loss. Susan Dellacca
