Obituary of Violet Alice Magoun

Violet (Vi) Alice Blair Magoun, of Avon, Indiana died Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Born September 30, 1922, in Brazil, Indiana, to Mahaley Jane (Blossom) Loughmiller Blair and John Oliver Blair. She was the fifth born of seven brothers and sisters. Vi, after graduating from Indiana State University in 1950, was an elementary teacher in school systems at Brazil, Indiana, Fredericksburg, Virginia, Jacksonville, North Carolina, and Decatur Township, Indiana.  She retired in 1987 with 31 years of teaching.
She was a member of Ben Davis Christian Church. Vi enjoyed sewing, traveling, and her family and made the best blackberry cobbler.
She was married to James (Jim) Lewis Magoun for 65-years, who preceded her in death. Jim was from Jacksonville, Florida
Surviving are: Sister Grace Walker, Plainfield, IN; brother David Blair, Columbus, IN; daughters Bethany Edwards, Fishers, IN, and Sharon Peterman, New Lenox, IL; daughter and son-in-law Duana and Linn McCalment, Camby, IN; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Christine Magoun, Brownsburg, IN; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, siblings Rosalene Foxworthy, Charity Schnurpel, George Blair, Edward Blair, John Blair, and great grandson Kyle Broderick Jackson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, November 24, 2017 at the Stevens Mortuary located at 5520 West 10th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. The family will meet with loved ones and friends from 9 – 11 AM on Friday at the funeral home immediately prior to the funeral services. Interment will be at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greenwood, Indiana.
