Obituary of Kenneth L. and Carole J. Hamilton

Kenneth L. and Carole Jean Hamilton Kenneth Lee passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the age of 84. His wife of 65 years, Carole Jean passed away five days later on November 2, 2016 at the age of 82. Both passed away peacefully surrounded by their family. Kenneth was preceded in death by his mother, Minnie Mae Graham Hamilton, his father, Halcy Hamilton and his brothers, Everett Hamilton and Russell Hamilton. Carole was preceded in death by her mother, Nora Myrtle Horsley, her father, Robert Leo General Horsley, and brother, Robert Leo Horsley. Carole is survived by her sister, Janet Sue Horsley Hipple and brother, Jerry Lee Horsley. The couple is survived by children, Donna Jean Finn, Jimmy Lee Hamilton and Larry Joe Hamilton. They leave behind seven grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. Kenny and Carole were both born on the west side of Indianapolis. Where they grew up, met one another and raised their family. Kenny was no stranger to hard work and put his heart into all of his jobs over the years. He was a bit of an everyman and spread his talents in everything from truck driving and masonry construction to reupholstering furniture. Whatever he did, he did it cheerfully and with passion. Carole relished her work. It gave her purpose and drive. She loved working for Methodist hospital for 25 years. The jobs that brought her the most joy were when she worked at GC Murphy as a counter girl and at Weight Watchers when it was new to the area. They both did their work happily and with passion. The things Kenny and Carole were most passionate about were each other and the family they created. They met each other at church in 1950, fell in love quickly and set out on a lifelong love affair that few will be fortunate enough to experience in this life. They married within a year and shortly after, Donna was born and Jimmy and Larry would follow. The next 60 plus years were filled with life’s joys and pains, all celebrated and endured because they had each other and the love of their family surrounding them. Kenny spent his life in a good mood. You always knew he was around because you could hear his whistle. He had an easy smile, a deep soulful voice, sparkling blue eyes and an ornery sense of humor that brought laughter to anyone he met. He loved the Colts and Peyton Manning more than any fan in the city. He adored his dogs, especially his Boston Terrier Dolly, and loved to sit at a coffee house counter and entertain all within earshot. His warmth, good nature, and gentle soul were contagious and all who knew him adored him. Carole had a sweet soul, a huge heart and was always ready to open her home to anyone. She delighted in cooking for her family and friends. She cherished spending time with those she loved, playing cards and board games. She was passionate about crafts, everything from embroidery, to ceramics, to painting and there’s not a Christmas tree in the family not adorned with an ornament she made. She loved to garden and consistently won neighborhood awards for her beautifully landscaped yard and flower beds. In the last 20 years she took up bird watching. Her porch and yard were filled with feeders and she would sit with her bird book and identity the different species. Whatever she was immersed in at the time, she desired to share the joy she gained from it with all those around her. Kenny and Carole spent only five days apart from one another since they married. They loved one another beyond measure. This was evident to all throughout their lives, especially in their final days. The memory of them, and their love, will live in is forever and we rejoice in the thought of them united in the hereafter.
