Obituary of Juliana J. Semmler

Juliana Jean Semmler passed away on the morning of Thursday, July 14, 2016. She was the youngest of four daughters born to Joseph and Josephine Hess on October 9, 1922. She attended Holy Cross School and Saint Agnes Academy, and then she went on to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College where she majored in music. While working at P.R. Mallory’s, she met her husband, Raymond Semmler, and they became one on June 12, 1946. They were blessed with six beautiful children; Stephen L. (Pam) Semmler, Joan M. (Dennis) Fitzpatrick, Mark E. (Gina) Semmler, Richard T. (Ruth) Semmler, Gregory J. (Dawn) Semmler, Taryn M. (Ed) Blair; 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. Julie’s hobbies included sewing, needlepoint, knitting, bowling and gardening, and chocolate was her favorite indulgence. She and her beloved husband retired to Mesa, Arizona, where he went through the diaconate program, and he was ordained a Catholic deacon by the Archdiocese of Phoenix in the early 1990’s. During their time in Arizona and when they returned to Indiana, she was very active with him working tirelessly at the Veterans Hospital, helping with Native American communities, and volunteering at the local food pantries feeding homeless. She loved to read books to the children at Saint Christopher School where she was an active member in the parish. Ready and able to debate and discuss any issue, Julie kept up with current events at all times. Devoted to her family and to her Catholic faith, she was a godly woman, the rock of the Semmler family, and she will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that contributions be made to Saint Meinrad Seminary.
