Obituary of James Lewis Magoun

JAMES LEWIS MAGOUN James (Jim) Lewis Magoun, of Avon, Indiana died Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Born January 18, 1929, in Jacksonville, Florida to Sadie L. (Davis) Magoun and Clifford L. Magoun. He was a proud retired Marine and a veteran of WWII and the Korean War. While in the military he served in many capacities but spent his last 10-years as an aerial photographer. Following his military career, he served as an aerial photographer for the State of Indiana Department of Transportation retiring from employment in 1993. He was a member of Ben Davis Christian Church and an active member of the West Newton Masonic Lodge for many years. He enjoyed his family and made the best roast beef, rice and gravy. He married his lovely wife of 65-years, Violet Alice Blair, on August 17, 1951, and she survives. Violet is from Brazil, Indiana. Also surviving are: daughters Bethany Edwards, Fishers, IN, and Sharon Peterman, New Lenox, IL; daughter and son-in-law Duana and Linn McCalment, Camby, IN; son and daughter-in-law Dan and Christine Magoun, Brownsburg, IN; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his great grandson Kyle Broderick Jackson. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Stevens Mortuary located at 5520 West 10th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. The family will meet with loved ones and friends from 9 – 11 AM on Saturday at the funeral home immediately prior to the funeral services. Burial will be at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Greenwood, Indiana. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly ask that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, 575 N.
