Obituary of Joseph "Joe" Sabo
Joseph “Joe” Sabo, 92, of Indianapolis passed away on May 21, 2016. He was born January 15, 1924 in Salemville, PA to Steve and Elizabeth (Kovacs) Sabo. Joe worked for Conrail formerly Union Belt Railroad for 37 years retiring in 1985. He was a member of the United Transportation Workers – Local #1548. He served in the US Navy during World War ll as a Gunner’s mate on the USS LST #743. Joe was a member of the American Legion in Brownsburg, lifetime member of the VFW, K of C Holy Family Council and the Slovenian National Home. He enjoyed watching the Colts, NASCAR racing and the Indianapolis 500. Joe loved gardening, yard work, the outdoors, family, good food with friends and his Miller Lite! He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances R. Sabo and his four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by his son, Steve (Becky) Sabo; daughter, Louise (Steve) Kelter; grandchildren, Joe, Ann, Michael and Nicole; great-grandchildren, Madison, Mackenzie, Oliver and one expecting great-grandson. Visitation will be Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 4-7:30 with a Rosary at 7:30 pm at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th St. Indpls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, held at St. Barnabas Catholic Church 8300 Rahke Rd, Indpls.,IN Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to the Salvation Army.
