Obituary of Ronald L. Newkirk

Ronald Newkirk, 68, of Indianapolis passed away on May 4, 2016. Ron was born to Ozzie and Kay Newkirk in Indianapolis on July 14, 1947 and was raised by his step-parents J.T. and Zenobia Liles. Ron was a graduate of Ben Davis High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was was a bridge builder that worked for his step-dad J.T. Liles. Ron loved hunting, fishing, riding his Harley, playing poker and euchre, and vacationing with family and friends. Ron loved Rock-n-Roll and Outlaw Country Music. Ron enjoyed watching his westerns on television. His favorite Christmas movie was, “The Christmas Story”. His favorite horror movie was, “Jeeper Creepers”. Ron was waiting for the “3rd” sequel to be completed and all his family talked about going to the theater to watch it. He loved going to the drive-in with his family. Ron was a member of A.A. and a fan of the Indianapolis Colts. Ron is preceded in death by his parents; step-father J.T. Liles and step-brother Richard Liles. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis J. (Kirby) Newkirk; step-mother, Zenobia Liles; children Shannon (Rob) Kortea, Natalie (Marc) Marciniak, Matthew Neice and Nicole Coombs; three sisters; two brothers; 5 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 also in Stevens Mortuary. Interment will follow in Lincoln Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that contributions be made to Kindred Hospice 2415 Directors Row #C, Indianapolis, IN 46241.
