Obituary of Dorothy A. Waldron
After a brief illness, Dorothy Waldron passed away on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at age 85. She was born in Indianapolis to Giuseppe and Amelia Codermaz (nee Joe and Amelia Gadman). Dorothy was a devoted daughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister and 3 infant brothers.
Dorothy’s parents immigrated to the US in the 1920’s from Italy. Her family settled in Haughville a close knit Slovenian neighborhood at the time, was surrounded by family and friends from “the old country”. Dorothy attended Holy Trinity elementary school and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1950. She was a member of the Slovenian Women’s Union and the Slovenian National Home.
In her youth, Dorothy made many memories at the Buzz Bucket and Riverside Skating Rink, where she ultimately met her future husband, Norris. Throughout her life, Dorothy enjoyed bowling, fishing trips to Biloxi, Mississippi and Panama City, FL, bird watching, going to garage sales, playing cards and playing bingo. She was a Girl Scout leader. Although home bound in her later years, Facebook became Dorothy’s connection to the outside world. She enjoyed chatting, as well as sharing words of encouragement and recipes with her Facebook friends. Dorothy was a great cook and for the past 58 years had hosted a weekly Sunday dinner for her family. After briefly working at RCA, Dorothy began her full time career of raising her children.
Dorothy is survived by her husband of 64 years, Norris Waldron and her 2 daughters, Jo Ellen Markiewicz and Gail Waldron-Bray (Bud). She had 5 grandchildren: Wendy Zishka (Tony), Rob Bray (Katie), Erin Bray, Andy Markiewicz (fiancé Kayleigh) and Molly Markiewicz. Dorothy was glad to meet her first great-grandchild, Natalie Bray.
