Condolences
MONTA JEAN PAYNE was one of the greatest skaters in the history of Roller Derby. With husband, CARL PAYNE, they were a dominant force in the banked track sport when it was the talk of the nation during the late 1940s & 50s. Even though Monta Jean longed to simply be wife and mother away from the game, she was an extraordinary all-around skater on the track. She was forever associated with the Jersey Jolters, mentoring many new skaters over the year. Although her career was relatively short, less than fifteen years, she left an indelible mark on the sport and was loved by all.
The National Roller Derby Hall of Fame, its members, skaters and fans, extend their condolences to the entire Payne family. Thank you for sharing Monta Jean with all of us. We will never forget her and will always celebrate her remarkable accomplishments.
To the Payne Family,
Our deepest sympathy for the loss of your mother. Hoping wonderful and fun-filled memories carry you thru this difficult time.
The Cain Family
I am so sorry for the Payne Family and your loss, I lost my Mom last year. I have found death to leave me with a feeling of helplessness. May I leave you this word of encouragement that has helped me? The Bible says at 1 Corinthians 15: 26 that God hates death, and shows it to be an enemy. He has "a yearning" to conquer that enemy, to undo death by means of the resurrection. He longs to bring back those who are in his memory and to see them live on earth again. -Job 14:14, 15. My sincere condolences
