Obituary of Cornelius Howe

Cornelius "Neal" S. Howe Cornelius "Neal" S. Howe, 82, passed away August 4, 2014 in Indianapolis, IN. He was born April 20, 1932 to Cornelius and Marie (Flynn) Howe in Indianapolis, IN. The youngest of four boys, he served honorably in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Marian College, now known as Marian University. On August 24 , 1957 he married his beloved Gloria A. Yane in Cleveland, OH, which began their 56 year romance. Neal was a devoted and loving husband and lost his closest and best friend in Gloria when she passed away on January 2 of this year. If it can be said that you can die from a broken heart, then this is truly what happened to Neal. Neal had a distinguished 20+ year career in the Life Insurance industry earning the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation and served as President of the Indiana Chapter of Life Underwriters. Following his distinguished career in the Life Insurance business Neal changed careers and entered the printing industry working until his 80th birthday at Priority Press in Speedway, IN. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Indianapolis Indians for 13 years. He was President of Marian College (University) National Alumni Association and Chairman of the National Fund Drive. Neal was also a member of the Jaycees and recipient of the SPOKE award. He was a parishioner at St. Michael Catholic Church for 49 years and was active in the parish having served on the Parish Council and volunteered to count money. Neal was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Neal is preceded in death by his loving wife, Gloria and twin brothers, Louis and Clarence. He is survived by his son, Neal (Carol); grandchildren, Lauren and Austin of New Canaan, CT; brother, Ed (Juanita) Howe; sister in laws, Sally Hren and Patricia (Joe) Mackey; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 7 from 4 pm - 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 8 at 10 am in St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 3354 W. 30th St, Indianapolis, IN. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery where he will be laid to rest beside his beloved Gloria. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Guardian Angel Guild, 1400 N.
