Obituary of Earl Hay
Earl E. Hay, 78, of Indianapolis passed away June 27, 2014. He was born April 11, 1936 in Cannelton, IN to
Thomas and Lula (Gaesser) Hay.
Earl retired as an electrician from General Motors after 30 years of dedicated service, but continued to work.
He was known as Mr. Fix-It and was always the first to offer to fix someone's car, heating and air, any electrical issues, plumbing problems and more. After becoming ill, Earl said what he missed the most was "tinkering in my garage and fixing things." He cherished his childhood memories of the fun he had growing up on the Ohio River. He played softball for 30 years, one of his most enjoyed activities. Earl loved to play Euchre, horseshoes, throwing washers and volleyball, especially with his family in Southern Indiana. He proudly served his country in the Army from January 6, 1959 - December 8, 1960. Earl was funny, patient and loving to everyone he met. He raised 3 kids without a spouse and never complained and showed everyone unconditional love. We will miss him everyday of our lives.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.
He is survived by his sons, Michael (Sue Ann) Hay and Joseph Hay; daughter, Marty Hay; grandsons, Jason Hay and Trey Pace; great granddaughter, Clover Hay, daughter of Jason Hay and Tiffany Mullen; brothers, Jimmy, Norman, Dennis and Paul Hay; sisters, Sue Horn and Judy Herzog; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, July 11 from 4 pm - 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indianapolis, IN 46224. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 19 at 1 pm at The Patio, 3120 Indiana 66, Cannelton, IN 47520. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, 4001 Girls Scout Road, Cannelton, IN 47520.
