Sylvester "Chet" Bayt, 98, of Indianapolis passed away June 26, 2014. He was the last surviving member of 11 children born to Phillip and Antonia Bayt, who came to this country from Slovenia, Austria in 1901. They became U.S. Citizens on November 1, 1905. Chet married Mariana Sims Bayt in 1938. They were married for 57 years. She passed in October of 1995. Family was very important to him and he was a great and loving father to Mary Ellen (Wallace) Blue, Nancy (Thomas) McCarthy and Susan Simons. He had 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. He was a very hard worker who started as a golf caddy when he was 10 years old to help provide money for his large family during the great depression. He continued to be a generous provider for all his family for many years. He retired from Bridgeport Brass at the age of 64. He touched many people and will be greatly missed by all. Sylvester always had a strong faith in his Lord was a great inspiration to his family. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 30 from 5 pm - 8 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 1 at 10 am in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 901 N. Holmes Ave, Indpls. Burial will follow in Floral Park Cemetery, 3659 Cossell Road, Indpls. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 3816 Paysphere Circle, Chicago, IL 60674.
