Obituary of William Smither
William "Em" Smither 93, of Speedway, passed away April 16, 2011. William was born March 31, 1918 to Albert and Lenora Smither who precede him in death. Em was assigned to the 32nd Infantry (Red Arrow) Division in WWII, and was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received on 122442, in Papua-Buna, New Guinea. He worked at Allison Detroit Diesel for 18 years retiring in 1982. He was also a member of the Church of the Master and was a member of the Speedway Moose 500 and a life member of the DAV. Em played the guitar and loved music. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grace Smither and his brothers and sisters. Survivors include his children, daughter, Nancy Kinnett, William E. (Penny), Michael Lee (Jeanne), Danny W. (Janet), C. Doug (Sharon) Smither; grandchildren Debbie, Randy, Missy, Will, Sarah, Michael, Jan, Jason, Chad, Ben and Andrea and great grandchildren Whitney, Kelsey, McKenzie, Jackson, Carolyn, Madison, Elizabeth, Emily, Chloe, Chad, SavannaH, Kari, Peyton, and Kasen and sister, Sylvia Bridges. Visitation will be held Monday, April 18 from 4-8 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary and Family Center, 5520 W. 10th St. Indpls,. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at the mortuary.
