Obituary of Joseph Mullen

Joseph A. Mullen, 81, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2014 at 3 am with his beloved wife at his side. Joseph was born in Clarks Hill, IN to Silas and Edith (Martin) Mullen, both preceding him in death. Joe attended Lafayette Jefferson High School in Lafayette, IN. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the Air Force as an intelligence officer and navigator. He played basketball for the US Air Force aka Moon Mullen. He retired from Detroit Diesel Allison, after 35 years of faithful service. Joe was a member of the Speedway Kiwanis, American Legion and USAC Auto Club. He loved the Indy 500, playing chess, scrabble, fishing and camping. Joe loved his family dearly and never met a stranger. He had a great sense of humor and was a great storyteller. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sarah Mullen; daughters, Becky Mullen-Wilson of Indianapolis, IN; Lisa Mullen of Auburn, Maine and Lori Mullen-Hess of Schopp, Germany; grandchildren, Steven (Christina) Lecklider of Plainfield, IN, Aaron (Deanna) Lecklider of Indianapolis, IN, Jax Mullen of Auburn, ME and Gary Mullen of Biddeford, ME; great grandchildren, Ciara Lecklider, Sarah Lecklider, Steven Lecklider II, Gavin Lecklider, Allie Ann Lecklider; siblings, John (Polly) Mullen, Nonah (Bud) Johnson and Lois (Bill) Bailey. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 19 from 2 pm - 4 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls.
