Obituary of Dennis Welty
Dennis Lowell Welty, 64, of Indianapolis passed away February 2, 2013. He was born May 9, 1948 in Martinsville, IN to Dennis J and Pansy Kathryn (Sipes) Welty, both preceding him in death.
Dennis grew up as a farmer and raised hogs and cattle. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and Science Club at Monrovia High School and later in life a member of the American Legion. He served in the United States Army from 1968 - 1970, discharging as an E-5 Sergeant. He worked at Indianapolis Power and Light from 1970 - 1973, was a master carpenter from 1973 - 2008 and a courier from 2008 - 2010. He was the head usher and alter worker at Church of Acts and also a head usher, alter worker and elder at Crossfire Church. He enjoyed stamp and coin collecting, was an avid Indiana Hoosiers and Indiana Pacers basketball fan and was a proficient mushroom hunter. Dennis was a devoted husband, a caring brother, a loving father and grandfather, and a faithful disciple of JESUS CHRIST. He followed Christ in his life and in his occupation as a carpenter. He served his calling by setting an example for others to follow, never in a showy or boastful way, but he would go about his business in a quiet and confident manner. If ever someone needed help, Dennis would offer his talents. As Peter said in Acts, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you," which is how he was able to touch so many lives.
Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, William Welty of Coatesville, IN and sister, Diana Wells of Indianapolis, IN.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 ½ years, Brenda Jean Welty of Speedway, IN; son, Jason Lowell Welty of Tallahassee, FL; daughter-in-law, Christina DeFelice Welty of Tallahassee; grandson, Benjamin Lowell Welty of Tallahassee, FL; aunt, Evelyn Welty of Monrovia, IN; brothers, Robert Welty of Plainfield, IN, Larry Welty of Benton, KY, Darrell Welty of Mooresville, IN, Jerry Welty of Mooresville, IN, Rodney Welty of Indianapolis, IN and Ronnie Stevens of Williamsport, IN; sisters, Sandra Sims of Mooresville, IN, Betsy Keith of Gillette, WY and Jenny Harper of Crown Point, IN and 33 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 9 from 11 am - 12 pm with a funeral service at 12 pm in Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W. 10th St., Indpls. Pastor John Calhoun officiating. Burial will be held in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison, IN on Monday, February 11 at 9:30 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dennis's loving wife, Brenda Jean Welty, 7265 Mariner Way #107, Indianapolis, IN 46214.
