One year for the festival Darren was in Alaska visiting Brian and driving his vehicle back to Indy. Joe convinced my brother and I to camp out like we did in years past. Well, that evening after the festival, Joe, my brother, and I all drove around in the golf cart with Phil Lambert driving. We probably abused the golf cart. Anyway, we were chasing around some people in the other golf cart. Well, one of the girls in the other carts dropped her cellphone on the ground and asked us if we could stop and help her look for it. Well, Joe said "yes we will help you," and once we drove up closer to her, Joe reached over from the passanger seat and pressed on the gas and said "NOT" as we drove away, and we all just laughed hysterically. How could you not? Then once we stopped, the girl came over and punched Joe lightly in the arm. Joe stopped laughing and in a serious voice said "Why did you hit me," and she said. "because you are a jerk." Then all of a sudden Joe started laughing really hard again. In years past, Joe and I have reminisced about that weekend and have laughed hysterically about it. It was Joe's deep belly laugh that I will miss the most. Sometimes you didn't even know what he was laughing at, but you start laughing. It was contagious.
I could write a book containing all the awesome memories I have of JoJoe, but instead I will share this one. About twenty years ago my parents left town for a couples vacation. My Uncle Joe watched Brian and I that week. We ate pizza, junk food, and stayed up way past our bed time every night. Brian and I woke up one of those mornings to the biggest pancakes I have ever seen. We called them "Uncle Buck" pancakes, we could not even finish one of them and we had three of them stacked on the serving dish in front of us (they where to big to fit on a regular plate). I remember Joe stating "You guys told me you where hungry, and you can't even finish them" so sarcastically. I don't know many 6 and 10 year old kids eating 10 pounds of pancakes. I remember looking at those pancakes and just thinking about John Candy in the movie "Uncle Buck" and him having to flip the pancakes with a snow shovel. This is one of those special moments I know neither one of us will ever forget. Thank you JoJoe for all the memories! We love you.
Our hearts hurt for you and for what we have loss. Joe was always so good to us and always one of the first to help. He was a good friend and a gentle soul. We will miss him very much.
I am so so so saddened by the tragic loss of Joey. I have had such fun and met some fabulous people like Joey, at the NASH with my friend Nancy Luckett. RIP Joey.............Hugs :0(
I was shocked & saddened to hear the news from Aunt Peg about Joe. I've been coming to the 500 for years now and always stop by the Slovenian Home for good fellowship & refreshments! Joe was always great to our group from NY. I will miss you Joe & I know Aunt Peg is heart broken. Our thoughts & prayers are with your family.
Joey was a good friend to me and my daughters and he was a good man, through and through. We will miss him so very much.
