Condolences
Our deepest sympathy to the extended Kavanagh family. Monsignor gave me my first musical job as an organist when I was in 8th grade and married me and my husband, Julian almost 40 years ago this August. I have the fondest memories of Monsignor passing out our report cards at St. Michael School and his smiling countenance at almost all times. If we could have only cloned him! What a terrific pastor and kind and generous-spirited priest. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. I know he is catching up with my dad and his buddies in Paradise. I just hope the Almighty has at least a par three course for him to enjoy!
Lynn, You may not remember me (ex-husband Bob's country cousin), but as soon as I heard about your uncle's death my prayers were with you and yours. Look us up if you're ever in the Morgantown area. I work at the bank located at the 4-way stop sign. Take care, Helen
My sympathy to his family and the parishioners of St.Michael's on your loss.
Please add a line .. our paths had not crossed from 1946 [graduation] to 1996 .. Then it makes more sense THANKS
Monsignor Kavanaugh was a saintly and practical administrator, who cared and shared with his flock. At our 50th reunion [CHS'46] he kindly recalled past O'Mahoney family disputes in a loving way - providing information totally new and healing for me. He rests now in Holy Peace.
Monsignor Cavanaugh was an integral figure in the life of my Dad, Joe Tuohy. Dad often said that Monsignor was like a second father to him. The Tuohy family will miss hearing updates about Monsignor Cavanaugh. He is now in heaven watching down upon us all. May he rest in peace.
Monsignor Kavanagh was a great role model for hundreds of us who met him early in our careers. He was always positive and upbeat. In 1922, when he moved to Indianapolis from Galway, Ireland, he enrolled in Cathedral grade school and met Bishop Chartrand. When Bishop Chartrand first established Cathedral High School, it became quite important in the life of Father Kavanagh. That continued to be true until the day he died. It was a special privilege to know him for more than seventy years.
