Obituary of Mary Zupancic
Mrs. Mary Rose "Metza" Zupancic 89, of Indianapolis, passed away in her home on January 14, 2009 under the care of St. Vincent's Hospice and her daughter, Martha. Mrs. Zupancic was born on November 4, 1919, to John and Antonia Debelak of Cleveland, Ohio, and was one of nine siblings. She was preceded in death by her husband August M. Zupancic, and is survived by her four children, Mary Annette (Tom) Poynter of Hamilton, IN, Cynthia Michaelis of Clarendon Hills, IL, Martha (Ernie) Kivett and Tom (Carrie) Zupancic of Indianapolis; eleven grandchildren, Mikki (Doug) Jeschke, Mike (Dodi) Poynter, Christi (Bill) Thomas, Heidi Michaelis, Todd (Nell Donaldson) Michaelis, Jeff (Cindy) Kivett, Jason Kivett, Jaime Kivett, Katie Zupancic, Jake Zupancic and John Zupancic, and nine great grandchildren. One of Mrs. Zupancic's greatest joys was spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed dancing, singing and cooking. Playing cards and dominoes and taking bus trips to the casinos were also some of her favorite pasttimes. She will always be remembered for her sense of humor and storytelling ability that brought laughter to all. Her son Tom "Zup", who is the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Indianapolis Colts, fostered her love for football and the Colts. She was an avid Colts fan, attending nearly all of their home games for the past 25 years. Mrs. Zupancic was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for many years before moving to and joining St. Michael Catholic Church, where she was a member for over thirty-five years. She was a member of St. Michael's Women's Club, K.S.K.J. Catholic Slovenian Fraternal Organization, S.N.P.J Slovenian National Benefit Society, Slovenian National Home, Guardian Angel's Guild, and the Gray Lady Service of the American Red Cross. Besides being a homemaker, Mrs. Zupancic worked at Farm Bureau Co-Op and General Equipment CompanySani-Serv, which later became Burger Chef. The calling and celebration will be on Sunday, January 18, 2009, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Michael Parish Life Center, 3354 West 30th St., Indianapolis. Services for Mrs. Zupancic will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 3354 West 30th St., Indianapolis. The Mass will be followed by burial at Washington Park East Cemetery, 10612 East Washington St., Indianapolis. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael Catholic Church or St. Vincent Hospice, 8402 Harcourt Road, Suite 210, Indianapolis 46260.
