Obituary of Jeannette Deer

Jeannette S. Deer 97, passed away January 5, 2009. Jeannette was born February 9, 1911 in Cissna Park, IL to Rachel and Henry Samet. Her husband, Darwin Deer, preceded her in death in 1985. Also preceding were her brothers Ralph, Harry, Dick, Jesse, Walter, Henry and sister, Dorothy Weess. Jeannette was a linotypist for The Cissna Park News and retired as a proofreader for The Indianapolis Star, after many years. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 98 and American Legion Auxiliary Post 497. Bright, active and witty, Jeannette was an active reader and enjoyed euchre, quilting, her "singles" luncheons and a notable series of long-lived companion cats. Her many "Nettie-ism's" (where you get it wrong, but it's still right) and her fabulous cooking will be long remembered. Survivors include her twin sons, Steven and Michael (Debbie) Deer; grandchildren, Zachary of Orlando, FL, Bethany (Jeremy) Carroll; step-grandson, Stephen P. (Victoria) Davis of Indianapolis and great grandsons, Luke and Logan Davis. Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Marie Samet of Cissna Park, IL; favorite nephews, Ralph (Sandy), Richard (Sue), Dean (Karen), Claire (Carla) Samet of IL, Myron Weess of Peoria, IL and James G. (Bridget) Deer of Atlanta and Indianapolis. Nieces include Racheline (Jim) Arnholt of Mattoon, IL, Karen (John) Laubscher of Cissna Park, IL, Peggy Busey of Paxton, IL, Lori (Dan) Kotleba of Algonquin, IL, Carla Weess of Peoria, Jean Jones of Indianapolis, Sandra (Bill) Powers of Atlanta, GA and beloved nieces, Janet (Sam) Salemi, Connie Dougherty of Indianapolis, Beverly Whildin, Mary (Bill) Colvin of IL, and grand cousins, the Enz families. Jeannette was able to live a long, healthful and quality independent life through the help of the Central Indiana Council on Aging (CICOA). Her care managers and loyal helpers include, Mary Bodle of CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions, Yvette Thompson of ABC Home Care, Joanne Keith of CICOA's Home Delivered Meals, Eric Sebo, Caroline Rogers, Leonard Sauer, Jr., Jackie Kenney, Mary and Bradley Guidry and many other friends and neighbors. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Stevens Mortuary, 5520 W 10th St, Indpls, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be there on Friday, January 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon, IN. Memorial gifts may be directed through the family to Wesley United Methodist Women Global Ministries, CICOA Aging and In-Home Solutions or the Indianapolis Humane Society.
