Obituary of Abel Garcia Tapia

Abel Garcia Tapia, 82, of Indianapolis passed away on December 18, 2024. He was born in Agua Caliente, Michoacan to Preciliano and RaFaela Garcia on December 23, 1941. Abel worked for Sheraton Maria Isabel for 20 years, where he met his wife, Celia. He also worked for Goshen Community Schools for 20 years. He liked gardening, especially his rose bushes, tomatoes and peppers. He enjoyed having projects to do especially those involving electrical, plumbing or building. Abel was passionate about reading; he had a 20-year subscription to the National Geographic. He was fluent in Spanish, English and French. He was a self- taught pianist. Abel loved dancing; he was usually the first person on the dance floor. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing soccer, where he played for more than 15 years in a league. He served as captain of the team many times and he liked watching the World Cup. He also enjoyed working out at the gym 3 to 4 times per week. Abel was very kind and always liked treating his family to dinner. He was also very friendly; he loved helping others and meeting new people. He had a good sense of humor and made people laugh with his wit. He was always inquisitive and liked learning new things. He was always a hard worker; when he was 17 years old his father died and Abel worked to support his mother and seven siblings. Abel was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers; 2 sisters; and his wife of 33 years, Celia Garcia. He is survived by his son, Alex Garcia of Terre Haute; daughters, Claudia Bautista of Indianapolis and Patty Coleman of Avon; grandchildren, Alejandra Stoner of Sarasota, FL, Julian Garcia of Terre Haute, Marisol Bautista, Nicolas Garcia and Chris Coleman of Indianapolis, Celina Coleman of Avon; great grandchildren, Alejandro Stoner of Sarasota and Michael Carlton of Indianapolis; he is also survived by a brother and sister.
