Obituary of Shirley A. Bische

Shirley Ann Bische, 86, of Indianapolis, IN passed away on May 20, 2024. She was born in St. Marks, Indiana on September 8, 1937 to Frank and Mary Ann Hedinger, both preceding her in death. Shirley married Clarence L. Bische on April 16, 1955, he preceded her in death in 2015; also preceding her in death infant daughter, Mary Bische; and brothers, Jerome and Dennis Hedinger.

Shirley volunteered for St. Vincent de Paul Society and Youth for Understanding (exchange student program) for many years. She then worked in the YFU office as well. Shirley was a caregiver to many through the years and graciously opened her home to many as well. She was a member of St. Christopher Catholic Church for 69 years.

She enjoyed traveling, camping, cooking, sewing, and spending time with her family.

Shirley is survived by son, Steve (JoAnn) Bische of Plainfield, IN; daughter, Karen (Pat) Marks of Celestine, IN; grandchildren, Maria (Matt) Schoettmer, Stephany (Frank) Holleman, Rachel (Derek) Hawkins, Jacob Bische, Rosa Bische, Erica (Tyler) Edele, Melanie Marks and Aubrey (Tyler) Weaver; and 11 great-grandchildren.  

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM, with a Rosary to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Christopher Catholic Church 5301 W. 16th St. Indianapolis at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 31, 2024. Interment to follow in Calvary cemetery.
