Obituary of David L. Hinders
David L. Hinders, 98 years old, passed away April 30, 2024 at his home surrounded by his children. He was born in Greenville, Ohio on November 19, 1925. Preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Marie Hinders; his sister, Rosemary Hiland; his wife, Virginia (Shreves) Hinders whom he married April 19, 1946; his daughter-in-law, Beverley (Feist) Hinders; his granddaughter, Courtney Tenney; and his great granddaughter, Kira Chandler. He is survived by his children, June Richie, James L. Hinders and Jean Ann Tenney; 9 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was a decorated WWII veteran. He retired from Conrail after 41 years of service. He was a member of Holy Family Knights of Columbus Council since 1948. After retiring he taught aqua aerobics for over 30 years at Thatcher Park. Visitation will be held at Stevens Mortuary 5520 W. 10th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224 on Tuesday, May 7, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 7:30 PM with a rosary service at 7:30 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at St. Christopher Catholic Church 5301 W. 16th Street Indianapolis, IN 46224. Interment to follow at West Ridge Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude’s Hospital.
