Mom's last week with us:
November 2023 momma was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer & was given maybe 6 months to live. She lived life to the fullest until April 2024. Late March mom fell and cracked her femur right before going to church to receive communion. The surgery went very well, and she did very good through rehab. Momma is a very strong person!
Tuesday April 9th, 2024, her great great grandson Remington Clay was born 5 lbs. 4oz (5 generations). He was not due till April 23rd. Wed morning April 10th, mom went to Hendricks Cnty ER for a high temp. The hospital kept her and during routine tests found her cancer had spread to her liver and lungs. The next day, Thursday April 11th while visiting mom in the hospital, she told Tammy and I she wanted to live long enough to attend our annual race day party and she wanted to die at home.
For months we had thought about hospice, but who do we choose? Friday a friend suggested 'Anew' and I phoned them. When they heard, we were going to have a race party early, they immediately wanted to help. Saturday mom came home from the hospital and Sunday was her party. ‘Anew’ hospice worked alongside with CEO Doug Boles arranged a pace car and vintage car in the driveway. The WTHR (13), Fox news, neighbors, family, friends, Sandi Patty, her husband Don, Sandi's dad Poppa, CEO of Indy 500 Doug Boles, and Dave the king Wilson, and Marion Cnty Sheriff's honor guard were all at mom's home to celebrate her party. This day was the best day of her last week. (feel free to download the link below)

Momma was comfortable in her hospital bed in her family room. She could see out the window and loved being near her manger scene. Her family was with her 24/7. Wednesday, I asked what sounds good to eat, and she said meatballs. Within 10 minutes my phone rang, and mom’s nephew Teddy said, 'I'm almost to your house with meatballs'. God hears our every prayer!
Each day she declined, and on Thursday evening some of the Kazacoff’s came to visit. She was very weak but awake and talked and conversed with the family and handed out money to the children (our custom). After that visit momma never ate or drank again. Her nurse Leigh shared with me how the book 'Dark Clouds Deep Mercy' is so good. Saturday evening Bill was going to order it through Amazon Prime and couldn't get in. Sunday morning mom’s nurse Leigh brings me the book.... again, only God! Mom passed at 3:35 pm Sunday surrounded by family. The bright spot of this difficult week was the Lord gave us Remington and we were able to get the 5-generation picture as mom held Remi. She was ready to see Jesus and her family who went before her.
On behalf of my sweet mother, words can never express the overwhelming support, compassion, and care during these trying days. My family and I will always remember 'Anew Hospice' expression of love. Each one of them was an instrumental part in helping us celebrate momma's last week of life.
Dear family and friends of Florence,
