Obituary of Lucian N. Magdun
Lucian Magdun, 77, of Zionsville passed away September 11, 2015. He was born in Rupea, Romania on April 12, 1938 to Ioan and Elena (Grigore) Magdun.
A man of courage and determination, Lucian immigrated to Unites States in 1982 with his wife Emilia and two children, Marius and Adina. The family settled in Speedway, Indiana for the first few years of a new life in the land of opportunity. After a summer of various odd jobs that barely kept food on the table, Lucian was fortunate to begin employment with LE Isley Plumbing, where he worked for the next 22 years; first as a plumbing apprentice, then as a master plumber. Despite not speaking English and not having a car, he struggled and persevered. For a while, he even commuted to work 19 miles one way on a bicycle donated by the local Lutheran church, and then attended evening school to learn English.
In 1988 the family started the construction of their house on 93rd street. With the exception of digging the foundation and laying the shingles, Lucian and the family built the house that became their home in 1989 and where he lived the rest of his life on this earth. It was in this home that he developed a passion for gardening and flowers. The garden grew larger every year, and the flower variety and beauty also increased as time passed. As a full time job and these hobbies were ostensibly not enough to keep him busy, he also picked up the art of wine making. He very much enjoyed social gatherings, and loved to share the fruits of his labor, especially the wine, at any of these events. He helped many along the way, especially those who, like he had had, were embarking on a new journey in this great land. He touched the life of many of us, he made a lot of friends and lost some too, but most of all, he always did it his way! He will be missed as a husband, friend, brother, father and grandfather of five beautiful grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Emilia Magdun; son, Marius (Kini) Magdun; daughter, Adina (Chris) Goodin; brother, Doru (Rosalia) Magdun; grandchildren, Sam Magdun, Melanie Magdun, Henry Magdun, Nick Goodin and Lauren Goodin.
