Obituary of W. Joyce Sharpe

Willie Joyce Sharpe, affectionately known as Joyce, was born on April 5, 1949 to Willie Oxendine, Sr. and Annie Mae James in Bennettsville, SC. Joyce graduated from Tattnall County High School where she also had the honor of serving as Miss Tattnall. After high school she relocated to Fort Wayne, Indiana where she attended Indiana University at Fort Wayne as an honor student. She loved reading books, especially the Bible and helped in any way she could at each church she was a member at. Joyce worked many years at the United States Post Office, becoming the first black woman to enter management at the Fort Wayne branch. After relocating to Indianapolis, she served 24 years at St. Vincent Hospital in a variety of assignments before selecting early retirement. Willie Joyce Sharpe was called home just as the clock turned to midnight on Saturday October 10, 2015 and the age of 66. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Oxendine, Sr. and Annie Mae James. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Christopher Sharpe, Tierney Sharpe Dioffo (Ahmed), and Kristina Sharpe; her sisters: Mary Easterling, Mildred Hodges, Anna Connor, Sandra Jones, Vicka Jones, Lois El-Ameen, and Felicia Oxendine; her brothers: Willie Oxendine, Jr. and Furman Oxendine; her grandchildren: Erielle Sharpe and Kailah Pickens; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
