Obituary of Jeanne Strohl

Frances "Jeanne" Luby Strohl passed away on October 20, 2016, in Indianapolis, Indiana Jeanne was born on November 29, 1919, in Mattoon, Illinois, to parents Roxie L. (Storm) Luby and Frank Clifford Luby. She graduated from Mattoon Senior High School and attended Utterback's Business College in Mattoon. She married Robert (Bob) Wayne Strohl in1948. They lived in Mattoon throughout their working lives and raised their family there. Jeanne worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, the Illinois State Unemployment Office and was a legal secretary for Ryan and Heller Attorneys at Law and retired from Glenn and Logue Attorneys at Law in Mattoon, Illinois. In retirement, Jeanne and Bob moved to Lake Mattoon where she was active in the Neoga Craft Club and in the Cumberland County Home Extension Unit. Following the death of Bob in 2002, Jeanne became a resident at Brookstone Estates in Mattoon until 2014 when she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. The family was active in Relay for Life where Jeanne continued to walk as a cancer survivor with four generations of her family until the age of 92. Jeanne spent countless hours working with her daughters and her son through Scouts. In addition to serving as a troop leader and neighborhood chairman, for years she spent a week of her vacation time directing the summer day camp for Mattoon Girl Scouts at Trefoil Lodge on Lake Mattoon. The family sponsored foreign exchange students from New Zealand and Iran. Jeanne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Joe Landes of Bella Vista, Arkansas, her daughter and partner Jan Strohl and Jodi Jensen of Indianapolis, Indiana; her son and daughter-in-law Randy and Rosemary Strohl three grandchildren: Jeff Landes, Andrea (Eric) Reed, and Renee Strohl, and three great grandchildren: Jacob and Cameron Reed and Mackenzie Spear. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bob; and brother, Frank L. Luby. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.
