Obituary of Geraldine Hawkins

Geraldine Crowdus Hawkins, affectionately known as "Dinnie" was born on November 13, 1944 to the late Evander William Crowdus and Mattie Mable Clark Crowdus in Indianapolis Indiana. Dinnie graduated from Emmerich Manual High School in 1963 and was soon employed by Anchor Glass Container, where she remained a proud assembly line employee for over 20 years, until the plant closed its doors. As a child, Dinnie would attend St. Mark A.M.E. Zion church, but it was not until 1982 that she professed her belief in Christ on Mother's Day and officially baptized in the church. Later in life, she would move her membership to Eastern Star Church. On June 1, 1983, Dinnie was joined in Holy Matrimony to Jerry Donald Hawkins for a total of 33 years, by which she became a devoted homemaker until she decided to return to the work force in 1994 with Autoliv, Inc. Dinnie took great pride in her work and earned many accolades as a result. Dinnie loved life and was considered the "social butterfly" of the family. She would often brag about being from the southside of Indianapolis and would tell plenty of stories about her childhood and siblings. Dinnie loved being active, particularly roller skating and riding all of the best rides at numerous amusement parks with her family and friends. Without a doubt, she was known as a professional shopper and never paid full price for anything. During her downtime she could be found either spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and friends or sewing and repurposing clothing and upholstery. She took tremendous delight in her family and loved to brag about her daughters and grandchildren. Throughout Dinnie's life she never met a stranger and would use any and every occasion to encourage and uplift anyone who crossed her path. She would regularly share the Good News of Jesus Christ and would put everyone on notice that she was a "King's Kid". Dinnie lovingly demonstrated Matthew 25 by devoting countless hours to caring for those in need, often telling others that she was on a mission. On Saturday, May 27, 2017 Dinnie got the victory over cancer and was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her older brother, Linwood Beauchamp, Jr. and sister, Lettie Mae Britt. She is survived by and leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Reverend Jerry D. Hawkins; daughters, Gina P. Owens (Kevin), Angel S. Hawkins (Autry Curry), and step-daughter S. Elaine Hart (Andre); grandchildren, Kevin K. Owens II, Mattison N. Hawkins, Andre Hart Jr., and Amanda Hart; siblings, Evanderline Campbell (James), Roger Crowdus (Ruth), Florene Allen (Jimmy), Michael Crowdus, Mary Crowdus, and Jerry Crowdus; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends.
