Obituary of Charles Dowe
Charles McNeil Dowe, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 4:25 AM. He was born on October 17, 1940 to Sidney Dowe and Delila Mae (Drakeford) Dowe in Wilmington, North Carolina. His beloved parents and younger brother, Ralph McKinley Dowe Sr. preceded him in death. Charles was educated in the public-school system of Wilmington, North Carolina and graduated from Williston High School. He proudly attended North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. Charles was trained as a certified Respiratory Therapist and worked for over 35 years at the Indianapolis VA Medical Center.
Charles married the love of his life, Grace Regenia (Blakey) Dowe on October 14, 1967 in Louisville, Kentucky. From this union, Charles MBoya Dowe was born on November 13, 1972 and Jamilla (Dowe) Touchstone was born on September 8, 1977.
Charles enjoyed horticulture, in particular, cultivating African violets. He was an avid reader with an affinity for classical literature. Charles also loved to listen and meditate to classical music. Charles was a member of the Bahai Faith and believed in the Three Core Principles: The Unity of God, the Unity of Religion and the Unity of Humanity.
Charles leaves in this life his loving and doting wife, Grace Regenia (Blakey) Dowe; son, Charles MBoya Dowe; daughter, Jamilla Makeba (Ron) Touchstone; sisters, Josephine Williams and Pearline Holliday; grandchildren, James Patrick Goldman Touchstone and Juliana Grace Touchstone; aunt, Mary (Henry) Baul, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.
