Obituary of Hugh Grant

Hugh "Scotty" Grant Died March 3, 2012 at age 86. Born in Derry, Ireland, Hugh spent his formative years in Scotland. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1951 after sailing with the British Merchant Navy. He was an Iron Worker with District Council, S. O. & V., local 22, until retirement. For over 50 years, Hugh shared his love for Ireland and Scotland through music and song, playing many instruments, most notably the accordion and bagpipes. He was an early member of the Gordon Pipers and entertained at local establishments and private events throughout Indiana. Hugh was a longtime member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and belonged to many organizations, including a 50-year membership in the Knights of Columbus, Fatima Council, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Kevin Barry Division, and the Moose and Eagle Lodges. He was preceded in death by parents, Hugh and Isabella Grant, and sisters, Elizabeth MacLeod and Mary Meyers. Survivors include brothers John (Nancy) and Patrick (Evelyn); longtime devoted friend, Angie Devitt; nephews, Kenny, John, Michael, Martin Grant and Michael Meyers; nieces, Karen Hamm, Ann Marie Bohr, Geraldine Neita and Elizabeth MacLeod. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. in Stevens Mortuary & Family Center , 5520 W. 10th Street, Indpls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 550 N. Rural St., Indpls 46201.
