Obituary of Audrey Matthews

The Life of Audrey B. Pennington-Matthews Audrey Matthews was born on October 6, 1934 to the late Herman Pennington and Susie Miller in Forrest City, Arkansas. She and her family later relocated to Gary, Indiana where she attended Gary Roosevelt High School. She was employed by Gary Transit Corporation. Audrey was a trailblazer and became the first female bus driver. Audrey relocated to Indianapolis, In 2002 and later became a member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Johnson. Audrey loved life and lived it her way. Her passions in life were cooking, playing card games, sewing, listening to music, and fishing with our Dad. On November 20, God saw fit to tell her that she had fought a good fight and time had come to receive her reward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Eloise Pennington, sister, Janice Pennington, and brother, Leonard Pennington. She leaves to cherish her memories: sisters, Tina Houston of Indianapolis, In, Herma (Charles) Drake of Toledo, Ohio, Verneita (Rodney) Coffee of Indianapolis, In., brothers, Harold (Addie) Pennington of Indianapolis, In, and Donald Pennington of Macon, Ga. Uncles, Percy Pennington of Chicago, Il and Pastor Emmett Baker of St Louis, Mo. Twelve nieces, six great nieces, and 6 great-great nieces. Eight nephews, ten great nephews, and one great-great nephew, ten cousins, and a host of friends. Special friends, Connie Miller, Lillie Cook, and Robert Day and his family.
