Obituary of Henry Bell
Henry Bell, affectionately known as Big Bear, transitioned on April 26, 2020 due to health issues at the age of 60. He was born in Gary, Indiana to Georgia Smith Bell and Henry C. Bell Sr. on May 15, 1959. He graduated from West Side High School with the Class of 1977. He was a Northeastern Oklahoma A&M University Scholarship Recipient.
Henry was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gary, Indiana. He was a former member of the Lake Ridge Volunteer Fire Department and the Fraternal Order of Police Associate Lodge 125. Henry worked for White River/Suez and Gary Sanitary District for 12 years.
During the time of his illness, Henry never lost his joyful laugh, love for food and celebrated life. Henry would meet no strangers and had the 411 on everyone, even at the nursing home where he had to stay for a short time. Henry kept us laughing. He loved the Lord, his Wife and family. Henry has said his most memorable moment was being at the Inauguration of the first African American President Barack Obama with his Wife and classmate, Eric.
Thank you, Third District Council Woman Mary Brown with Henry's political experience, he especially enjoyed the meetings that were held at Tolleston Park Pavilion.
Henry was preceded in death by his Mother, Georgia Smith Bell; Father, Henry C. Bell Sr; and Brother, Robert A. Simmons Jr. Those left to cherish his memory are his Devoted Wife, Marlena; Daughter, Laura; Sons, Bryane (Tasha) and Dwyane; Sisters, Evonne Simmons Davis and Joyce (Carl) Bell Murphy; Faithful Friend Mark (Renee)Tyler; Seven (7) Grandchildren, Nieces, Nephews and friends. We all love Henry but the Lord loved him more.
