Obituary of Geraldine Marshall
Geraldine Louise Horton Marshall was born in Jeffersonville, IN. on January 30, 1943 to Joseph Henry and Mary Catherine Horton, Sr.
Geraldine graduated from Jeffersonville High School in 1961 and went on to study Education at Indiana University Southeast and graduated with an Associate Degree.
Geraldine met Frank Marshall in St. Louis, MO. and the two fell in love and were married on March 26, 1966 in Jeffersonville, IN. Together they raised 2 daughters: Sharetha Francene Marshall and Shana Fene' Marshall.
Christ was the center of her life. She gave her life to Christ at an early age and was baptized on March 4, 1953. Every person she encountered she made sure she shared the love of Christ, encouraged them to give their lives to Christ and to live a life pleasing only unto Him.
For 18+ years, Geraldine, also affectionately known as "Geri", worked as an Elementary School Special Education Teacher in the Greater Clark County School System (Jeffersonville, IN.) as well as 4 years in Gelhausen, Germany during her husbands' tour. She then worked at the Pre-school level at Respect Academy (Light of the World Christian Church - Indianapolis, IN.), Beginnings Preschool (First Baptist Church - Indianapolis, IN.) and AYS - (Washington Township School System - Indianapolis, IN.)
Many came to know and love "Geri Marshall" as she made history becoming the first woman gospel radio personality/announcer in Louisville, KY, on WLLV "The Light" Gospel Radio in 1985. There, Ms. Geri paved the way for many women to follow. Ms. Geri hosted a multitude of Gospel Musicals and Midnight Gospel Concerts featuring greats such as The Pentecostal Ambassadors, Keith Pringle, Rev. Milton Brunson Thompson Community Singers and Robert Turner and the Silver Hearts as well as brought many gospel plays to Kentuckiana such as "Mama I want to Sing" and "Your Arms are Too Short to Box with God". Ms. Geri also wrote and produced a song for one of Louisville's own radio personalities, Herb Maze, "The Man in Drive" that played daily before and as his show ended. She also had her own registered recording label, "SFM II Productions" where she recorded aspiring artist and distributed their music to major recording labels to be heard. As a part of the Production company, Ms. Geri formed a Youth Group in Jeffersonville, IN. where she helped mold their knowledge and abilities as aspiring radio personalities and announcers and DJ's, develop vocal skills as well as hosted youth concerts, parties and skate parties in Jeffersonville, IN. and Clarksville, IN. in an effort to promote a fun environment to keep teenagers safe, productive and out of trouble and off the streets. She loved music, singing, cooking, eating out, traveling, growing plants and enjoying life by spending time with "her babies" and family.
Her love for singing ran deep as she sang and traveled as a late teen and early young adult with The Melody Queens out of Jeffersonville, IN. She sang in the mass choir at Gilt Edge Missionary Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, IN. and was a member of The Gospel Music Workshop of America Southern Indiana Chapter (SIC). Once moving to Indianapolis, IN., she used her gift of singing with The Golden Lights at Light of the World Christian Church in Indianapolis, IN. Geraldine Louise Horton Marshall was called to her final rest on Monday, April 27, 2020 at the age of 77.
