Obituary of Demel Acklin

Demel Douglas Acklin, 61, of Indianapolis, IN., passed to his eternal home unexpectedly on August 15, 2020. Demel was born on June 2, 1959 in Akron, OH. The son of Lottie Acklin and the late Elvie Acklin. He was also preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Kirk Acklin. Demel knew the Lord, accepting Jesus Christ as his personal savior at an early age. Demel graduated from North High School, in Akron, OH., in 1977. Leaving home the next day to begin his training in the U.S. Army. Demel served 14 yrs. in the military, earning his college degree. He actively served during Desert Storm, and was awarded several medals and badges of honor. He ended his military career in 1991 with an Honorable Discharge as a Sergeant First Class (E-7). After the military, Demel worked for the U.S. Postal Service; retiring in 2012 with 17 yrs. service. Demel was a man of many skills. He was a certified EMT, certified nurse assistant and certified heating and plumbing technician. Hobbies included fishing, hunting and cooking. Demel enjoyed helping others. Even during COVID-19, he volunteered at a local food bank. He never stopped caring, helping and being of service to others. Demel leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Lottie Acklin, his sisters: Veronica (Sam) Bishop and Denise Grant; Nephews: Donte (Josheena) Ferrell, Kevin Moore and Noah Bishop; Nieces: Karissa Ferrell, Kandice Moore and Mia Grant; a great niece, 6 great nephews, aunts, and a host of cousins and friends.
