Obituary of Carmela L. Gaddie

CARMELA LADINE BINGHAM GADDIE was born on May 24, 1960 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Arthur Lee Bingham and Annetta Rebecca Walton Swanigan. Affectionately known as "Carmie" to family and friends, she attended Indianapolis Public Schools. Carmie was united in holy matrimony to James "Sneakie" Gaddie and together they enjoyed 19 years of marital bliss until his death in 2007. Carmie LOVED her family and was the supreme babysitter, favorite auntie, and all around best buddy to all of her nieces and nephews. She would laugh and joke, be on your side when times were rough, but also correct you when you were wrong. She never met a stranger and was the life of every party. Carmie often "held court" on the front porch of her home at 3113 North Sherman Drive, and was well-known to her neighbors and friends as "Auntie" or "Carmen." She proudly spoiled her grand babies Elijah and Promyce, and any other children, related or not. She was a second mom to Dionna Miles and Takesha Bingham. Carmie loved to hang out and go to the casino with her best "sister-friend" and confidant, Michelle Rippy. Carmela Ladine Bingham Gaddie departed this life on April 14, 2023 at the age of sixty-two years. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fredrick Michael Walton, Arthur Henry Hopson, and Kenneth Hopson, sister Pocahontas Bingham, step-sisters Rita Williams and Tracey Swanigan, and long-time partner Jeffrey Upshaw. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Tonya Woodson Bullock (Shomar), grandsons Elijah Dullen, DeQuane and Demarrius Bullock, and granddaughters Promyce, Elainna, and Faith Bullock; stepfather Henry Swanigan, sisters Patricia Baker, Rita and Charlene Walton; brothers James Earl Hopson (Doris), Larry "Dykie" Bingham, Brian "Tony" Bingham (Rochelle), Alex "Jerry" Bingham (Lisa), Keith Torrence, Sr. (Debbie) and Kim Leon Torrence; step-sisters Sherry Hamilton (William), Donna Swanigan and step-brother Quinton Swanigan (Lisa). She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many cherished friends. God saw the road was getting weary The hill was hard to climb; He gently closed your loving eyes And whispered "Peace Be Thine." The family of Carmela Ladine Bingham Gaddie wishes to acknowledge with deep appreciation the many comforting messages, prayers and other expressions of kindness and concerns through thoughts and deeds.
