Obituary
Obituary of Jane Patterson
On June 15, 2023 Jane Ellen (Cory) Patterson passed away peacefully at St. Mary Healthcare facility in Lafayette, IN surrounded by family. She was 87 years old and is survived by her sister (Phyllis Jessup), two sons and their spouses (Michael Patterson & Dawn, Allen Patterson & Laura), five grandchildren (Christina Patterson & Jessi, Stefanie Spiczenski & Danny, Aaron Patterson & Kathleen, Joanna Johnson & Cole and Katherine Patterson), as well as four great grandchildren (Zeke Johnson, Andrew Patterson, Zion Johnson, and Alden Jane Patterson).
Jane was born to Arthur and Pearl (Brown) Cory on January 4, 1936 near Morristown, IN. She grew up on the family farm with three older brothers and three older sisters. She loved spending time with her father and enjoyed being outdoors seeking out her next adventure. Jane graduated from Morristown Highschool in 1954 and married James Aaron Patterson on December 28, 1957. She held a variety of jobs, but the one she loved most was being a mom to her two sons and nana to her grandchildren. She was actively involved in her family's activities; a member of the PTA, room mother, youth group leader with her husband Jimmie at Lawrence United Methodist Church and Meridian Street United Methodist Church, and loudest cheerleader at athletic events (poor referees didn't stand a chance). Another important part of Jane's life was music: a true passion. She started out singing in her church choir and went on to sing with Jimmie in the Good Time Singers in Indianapolis, IN, reunited with her high school music teacher, Miss Goode. With her huge heart, she never missed a chance to support those closest to her and connect with people she met along the way. One of the ways she showed her love was through cooking. She delighted in seeing people enjoy and share her recipes, always taking requests and bringing a feast to most events (some would say she invented tailgating). Jane was truly many things to many people and in the end she was blessed with the opportunity to have conversations with those closest to her-a true miracle for a strong, amazing woman who exuded warmth and was the picture of generosity.
A memorial service will be held for Jane on Saturday June 24th from 1-4pm at Coxhall Mansion located at 11669 Towne Rd. Carmel, IN 46032. From 1-3:30pm there will be stories and hugs. The service will start at 3:30pm.
